Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.
Before the formation of Toto, band members did sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggsalbum from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 as a result of the collaboration.
Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics due to lacking hit singles. In 1985 the group's singer Fergie Fredericksen quit, and the band held auditions to find a replacement frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering old tapes and demos to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well received by fans, and the band embarked on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar quit the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.
